An Artful Archive of Local History
County Clerk Stacey Kemp has come up with a great tool for those documenting their Collin County roots. The archive of marriage licenses, dating back 126 years, can be searched from a new Genealogy Corner on the webpage.
More than 8,000 licenses, dating from 1884 to 1949, have been scanned and are now searchable. But we went one step more: for those who'd like a copy of these licenses for a project or family album, there are three different options that are available for a small fee.
We've posted a sampling of marriage license headings below to show you how ornate and unique these records have been over the years.
Just visit our Historical Marriage License Search page to get started. You can hunt by date range, bride's or groom's name. If you find what you're looking for, you can choose to buy a copy three different ways:
Sizes of the documents are typically 8 1/2 inches by 14 inches, but may vary according to when the document was issued. Payment is required before the copies will be released.
- A PDF document can be accessed via a link sent to your email address. The link will be available for 5 days after it has been sent; cost: $5.
- A Certified copy is a document which has been certified by the County Clerk and has been stamped with a raised seal; cost: $7.
- An Heirloom copy is printed by the County Clerk on special heirloom paper that creates a replica of the original license for framing; cost $10 (Heirloom copies can also be certified for an additional fee of $5).

Meanwhile, we've posted other tools to use for historical research here.
