Change in Free Trash Day Policy
Beginning October 1, 2017, the dumping of roofing shingles will no longer be free of charge at the monthly free trash days. Instead, a $150 surcharge plus a fee based on the weight of the shingles will be charged to anyone dropping off roofing shingles.
This policy change is offset the problem that roofing shingles are not biodegradable.
Asphalt Road Projects
2015 was a historic year in north Texas in terms of weather. After years of drought and water usage restrictions, the region received an unprecedented amount of rainfall in 2015. In most respects, the plentiful rainfall was a welcome sight, filling area lakes and easing anxieties due to insufficient water resources. Although rain totals vary in different parts of the county, weather outlets measured an annual total of approximately 71” compared to an average annual rainfall of 38.25” in Collin County, almost double the normal amount.
However, the bountiful rainfall also overwhelmed our infrastructure which had a devastating effect. The resulting runoff, drainage and flooding throughout the county caused significant damage to our road network. As such, it became necessary to temporarily suspend our County Road paving program (the “50 Miles” program) in favor of concentrating our resources on repairing the numerous roads affected by the severe weather.
Public Works staff currently estimates a delay of 12 to 18 month for Asphalt Road Projects given the size and scope or weather related damage. We humbly seek your patience as we progress through these challenges and wish to assure the citizens that our commitment to safety is unwavering. We encourage residents to report any conditions that compromise safety or create a dangerous situation. Citizens can call the Public Works office at 972-548-3700, email
firstname.lastname@example.org or log a service request here on our website to report an issue.
We apologize for the inconvenience and pledge that the County will resume road paving projects as soon as practical. In the meantime, be sure to check the
County Road Paving Program webpage for any updates.
